There is no municipal paid or controlled parking on the island as of September 2026, and the Municipality of Tinos marks 19 official lots on its parking map — 12 in Tinos Town (Chora) and 7 in the villages. The one paid option we found near the centre is a private lot, not a municipal one. The main catch is timing, not cost: the seafront road in Tinos Town closes to cars on summer evenings, one pier lot has a hard removal deadline, and in 2021 and 2024 the streets around the Panagia Evangelistria church were closed to cars on the eve of 15 August. Whether you arranged car hire in advance or picked up a cheap car rental at the port, this guide sets out exactly where to leave the car in Tinos Town, at the church, and in the villages — and what happens if you don't. Where to park in Tinos Town: the official lots The Municipality of Tinos and the Tinos Municipal Port Fund published a parking leaflet on 17 July 2026 with a QR code linking to the official online map, "Θέσεις Στάθμευσης – Parking Zone." The map marks 19 lots in total: 12 inside Tinos Town and 7 in the villages. Its legend uses two colours: a blue P marks free parking with no time limit, and a yellow P marks parking restricted to a specific time window. On the ground, municipal direction signs point drivers to the parking lots from four spots: opposite the BP petrol station, at the junction after the Kaktos club, on the ring road at the entrance towards the Evangelistria church, and outside the old Paradise. Follow them rather than driving into the old town to look for a space. In short: Tinos Town has 12 free municipal lots. Only two have time rules — opposite the Poseidonio hotel and the open-air market area — and the closest to the church are Evangelistria Foundation lots A and B. As of September 2026, there is no municipal paid or controlled parking anywhere on Tinos. Mayor Panagiotis Krontiras said in July 2026 that the municipality wants to create three controlled parking areas, but cannot proceed until the port land-zone master plan is approved — a filing he expected by October 2026. A free shuttle into the centre is also being studied but is not currently running. Two new municipal lots opened for 2026: one at the Health Centre and one on the Stavrou–Kionion Avenue side, both already operating. A dirt lot at the Outer Port also operates as parking. In summer, a security company hired by the Port Fund directs drivers in the outer-port lots and at the lot opposite the Poseidonio hotel, and the municipality specifically asked rental car companies to have their drivers follow the security staff's instructions. The one paid option we found near Tinos Town is private: Tinos Central Parking, advertised as two minutes from Chora, with 24-hour CCTV and hourly, daily, weekly and monthly rates. No prices are published for this lot, so budget for it as an unknown rather than assuming a fixed per-hour cost. The evening seafront closure (mid-July to end of August) The seafront road of Tinos Town, from the Koursaros bar to Piraeus Bank, was closed to cars every day from 21:00 to 24:00, from Saturday 18 July through the end of August 2026. The closure was announced through 31 August, but the last enforced night was actually Sunday 30 August, after which traffic returned to normal on Monday 31 August. Mayor Panagiotis Krontiras describes the closure, now about forty days long, as a measure Tinos has used for years. Exact 2027 dates are not yet announced — check official announcements and the posted signs. During the closure period, every car in the lot opposite the Poseidonio hotel must be removed by 20:00; the sign posted there (Ρ43) bans stopping and parking from 20:00 to 24:00. The open-air market-area lot works the other way around: parking is allowed there only between 16:00 and 06:00, making it a genuinely good overnight option once the seafront closes. Thirteen disabled parking bays sit in the port zone: one at the New Port (Mariner), two at ITIP (the Tinos Cultural Foundation), two at Poseidonio, three at Koursaros, and five west of the New Port waiting areas. Parking for Panagia Evangelistria and on 15 August The closest official lots to the Panagia Evangelistria church are the two Evangelistria Foundation lots on the municipal map: lot A, a 2-minute (155 m) walk from the church, and lot B, a 4-minute (312 m) walk — both free, with no time limit. For 15 August 2026 itself (the Dormition feast), a port land-zone order closed the seafront road from Koursaros to the Sklavenitis supermarket to vehicles from Friday 14 August 18:00 to Saturday 15 August 14:00, with stopping and parking banned there and on both the Poseidonio pier and the Elli pier. In both 2021 and 2024, the church area itself was also closed during the same window — 14 August 18:00 to 15 August 14:00 — with no traffic allowed along the full length of Megalocharis Avenue, on the streets around the Evangelistria church, and on the municipal road linking the ring road to Kallergi Street up to the church dormitories; traffic was diverted onto parallel streets and the ring road. We could not locate a separate 2026 order for the church-area streets, so plan for the same pattern without treating it as confirmed; check locally whether the Evangelistria Foundation lots can be reached during the closure. For 25 March (Annunciation) and 23 July, no 2026 traffic order was found for Tinos — check with the municipality or the local police once you're on the island. We found no shuttle or park-and-ride for the church; a free shuttle into the centre is only under study. Parking in the villages The municipal parking map marks official lots in seven villages: Pyrgos, Ktikados (municipal parking), Falatados, Steni (public parking), Kampos (marked free parking), the Komi area (Perastra), and Kalloni (municipal parking). Capacity, surface and any pricing for these village lots could not be confirmed, so treat them as marked spots rather than guaranteed spaces. Most traditional village cores on Tinos are pedestrian or simply too narrow for a car. The standard approach if you rent a car in Tinos and plan a village day: park at the marked lot or at the edge of the village, then walk into the centre. Kardiani and Isternia don't appear as lots on the official municipal map. Leave the car at the edge of the village and walk in. Parking fines in Greece and who pays on a rental car Parking fines on Tinos follow Greece's national Highway Code, Law 5209/2025, published 13 June 2025 and in force from 13 September 2025. Ferry days: parking and returning your rental car at the port The municipal map labels two harbours in town: the Old (inner) port and the New (outer) port. On ferry days, the Outer Port lots A, B and C are the most practical option — free, a 9-minute (691–709 m) walk to the seafront, and 13 minutes (1,004 m) from lot A to the church; a dirt lot also operates at the Outer Port. In summer, a security company hired by the Port Fund directs drivers in these lots, so follow their instructions rather than parking wherever looks open. Local rental companies advertise pickup and drop-off at Tinos port, but there is no official handover point or arrival-time buffer. Ask your car hire company in writing for the exact meeting point and pickup time, and build in extra time on ferry days in July and August, when the outer-port area gets busy. Strong wind is a recurring hazard on Tinos. Hold the car door firmly with both hands when opening it in wind, especially in the outer-port lots, to avoid it swinging into a neighbouring car.
